According to a report by Record, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte as a summer transfer target. The 21-year-old has been one of the standout performers for the Portuguese club this season, playing in 39 games in all competitions as a defensive midfielder.
Tottenham are said to be planning to make an official offer for the Uruguay international in the upcoming transfer window with Ugarte’s current deal with Sporting running until 2026 and including a release clause of €60m.
Sporting are reportedly considering selling him come summer, as they have placed him at the top of their list to make cash before bringing in new players to the club.
Moreover, according to Correio da Manhã – the possibility of losing Ugarte has led Sporting to identify AS Monaco’s Jean Lucas as a potential candidate to replace him.
Tottenham have recently dealt with the Portuguese side, having signed Pedro Porro towards the conclusion of the January transfer window earlier this season. However, the negotiations for Porro’s transfer were lengthy and messy, and Levy would want to avoid a similar situation with Ugarte come summer.
The potential acquisition of Ugarte could strengthen Tottenham’s midfield, which has been a weak point for the team this season.
