Ughh, another defender – Éder Militão is not just another name

Militão

According to Bild, Tottenham are reportedly targeting Brazilian defender Éder Militão from Real Madrid this summer.

With Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen out of contract this summer, and his likely exit means Jose Mourinho not only have to replace Vertonghen, but also find someone who could stay there for a long time.

Éder Militão will definitely be an upgrade in the backline, given how woeful Spurs’ defensive record has been this season. Mourinho will be looking at signings like Militao in that area of the pitch to fix their leaky defense.

Militão was signed from Porto last summer for around €50 million but has failed to see much gametime under Zidane at Real Madrid, featuring only in a couple of games.

He rose through the ranks in Sao Paulo’s youth setup signing for Porto when he was twnety, signing a five year contract with the club. He made thirty seven appearances for Porto over the span of two seasons.

Militão made his Brazil debut in 2018, and was part of the squad that won the Copa América in 2019. In spite of his rather young age, his game is well-rounded, carries great physical, athletic strength and technical prowess. He also delivers strong, powerful heads and has terrific stamina.

While €40/50m may seem a lot for the 22-year-old, with the current market and its inflated prices, it will be a good investment for the club on a young player who is surely destined to the very top.

With Militão, we have a raw but versatile talent, who could potentially develop into a top level player under Mourinho at Tottenham.
