So, the race to secure the services of promising PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko has intensified with other Premier League clubs joining Tottenham’s pursuit. Newcastle United are said to be joining the fray alongside Liverpool as per latest reports.
The 20-year-old has been catching the eye with standout performances for PSV prompting interest from a host of European clubs eager to harness his potential for the long term. His prowess was showcased during the 2021/22 campaign, when he delivered remarkable displays for Jong PSV netting 17 goals and contributing 12 assists in 32 league appearances. Progressing into the first team for PSV last season, Johan Bakayoko continued to impress, accumulating 41 appearances across all competitions including a tally of seven goals and seven assists.
The interest in the signing of the Belgian international have gained considerable momentum – while Burnley’s offer were rebuffed, Liverpool has emerged as a contender in the pursuit of his signature. Now, Tottenham and Newcastle in the talks mean potentially igniting a bidding war as the transfer window edges closer to its conclusion – an ideal scenario for PSV.
Journalist Alan Nixon has indicated that both Tottenham and Newcastle are actively assessing Bakayoko’s prospects and are considering launching last-minute bids for him. Notably, representatives from both clubs were present at Bakayoko’s recent match against Rangers at Ibrox where he contributed to two assists in a 2-2 draw.
Johan Bakayoko’s creative prowess has been evident this season as well with four assists in six appearances underlining his ability to generate goal-scoring opportunities for PSV.
While Burnley’s initial bid of around £17.2 million was rejected, it’s reported that Bakayoko’s contract with PSV runs until 2026 so the Dutch club would not be under immediate pressure to sell. Consequently, interested Premier League clubs would likely need to make substantially higher offers potentially in the ballpark of £30 million to secure Bakayoko’s services.
