Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made initial contacts with Juventus defender Merih Demiral’s representatives over a potential switch to North London.
According to multiple reports, Merih Demiral is set to move away from Juventus next month if not the summer, after limited game time for the Italian outfit since moving to Turin in the summer.
Demiral has only featured in one match for the Italian Champions with Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci being used as the first choice defenders by manager Maurizio Sarri.
Spurs are reportedly very keen on to bring the 21-year old, however, they will face competition from fellow Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal. Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus will be willing to sell Demiral for a fee in the region of £34 million. That is a price that Spurs would be willing to pay for such a promising centre-half.
The Turkey international has apparently fallen out of favor with Maurizio Sarri. To make just 1 appearance with Giorgio Chiellini out injured for a long term is very disappointing for Demiral.
Spurs faithful would be more than satisfied to welcome Demiral with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen set to leave the Lilywhites for free next summer. And Jose Mourinho would be more than content to have a 6ft 3in rock in his defence. Signing Demiral could resolve Spurs’ defending issues.
They have only managed to keep one clean sheet since Mourinho’s arrival and Demiral could end up strengthening their defense and add some aggression to the squad. So he’ll surely be an exciting acquisition for Spurs.
