According to report by Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is said to be keen in joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer. However, it is understood that the Daniel Levy & Co. are reluctant to pay an inflated price for a player who has only one year remaining on his contract.
Brentford are believed to be seeking a fee of £40 million for the Spanish international.
Our approach to signings in such contract situations was demonstrated last summer in the acquisition of Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion for an initial fee of £25 million – and that stands as a based to the unwillingness to pay up in excess of our valuation for players who are in the final stages of their contracts.
Now if we look at what David Raya has done for Brentford and how exemptional he has been in Thomas Frank’s setup – we are not only getting a firm goalie but also someone who is profound with the ball and loves to attract press before releasing that pass into the spaces. This would be a massive upgrade from what Hugo Lloris is capable with his feet, and moreover will be an integral addition to Angelos Postecoglou’s setup for the upcoming campaign, provided if the transfer were to materialise.
I would understand not wanting to overpay and setting a precedent of paying that massive transfer fees. If Levy starts doing it – next thing you know, the fans are bashing Daniel coz’ Tottenham are out of Maddison race owing to the enormous 80m pound check asked by Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha & Leicester City. Take United for example… i need not say more…
Getting back to transfer, we need to see how both clubs take it forward and if there is the willingness to find common ground in terms of the transfer fee. As the transfer window progresses, further developments regarding Raya’s future and Tottenham’s stance on the deal are expected to unfold.
