According to Dean Jones from Give Me Sport, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on signing Crystal Palace centre-back, Marc Guehi.
Guehi is a talented young centre-back who has really caught the eye with his performances in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has found himself on the wishlist of a number of English clubs.
It truly does look like a North London battle is ensuing for the young defender. Tottenham and Arsenal are both very keen on securing his services and this could in all likelihood results in a bidding war.
Arsenal and Tottenham have had two very contrasting seasons right now. The Gunners have had one of their best seasons in recent times but the same cannot be said about the Lilywhites. Under Antonio Conte, they have had an unbelievably shambolic campaign.
Mikel Arteta’s team had a great season built on a very robust defence comprising of Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Aaron Ramsdale.
In fact, the time their season completely fell apart was when Saliba suffered a season-ending injury. It was only after that the Gunners kept dropping points, losing games and eventually miss out on the league to Manchester City.
Tottenham on the other hand had a campaign where they shipped goals for fun. Expect for Cristian Romero, no one else from that Tottenham defence could come out with their heads held even slightly high.
Hugo Lloris was absolutely horrendous in between the sticks and injuries certainly did not help the French World Cup winner. The lesser said about Fraser Forster, the better.
Davison Sanchez, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon all had campaigns to forget despite the former two actually having a promising start right at the beginning. However, things quickly went downhill.
Emerson Royal really improved after January and Pedro Porro played far too less in his position to be judged. Japhet Tanganga was never really given a fair rope. With respect to Clement Lenglet, he was decent but not spectacular.
All this paints a very grim picture about the Tottenham defence and it comes as no surprise that they want to sign Marc Guehi. It is not just Guehi though with the likes of Roger Ibanez and Victor Nelsson also linked with a move.
The bottom line is that Tottenham need to improve their defence and it is not sufficient if they sign one or two players. They need to shift out the dead wood and bring in fresh faces.
There are not many young talents in the Premier League better than Marc Guehi. Let’s hope we can beat our fierce rivals to his signature.
