Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday to face his former club in a bid to take the advantage in the top 4 race. However, it was Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, who tasted victory.
Chelsea dominated the game for the early part of the first half and were rewarded for it in the 15th minute when Jorginho’s shot hit the post and fell kindly in the path of Olivier Giroud, who smashed a half volley from inside the box to give the Blues a deserving 1-0 lead.
Spurs had a decent couple of openings in the first half thorugh Lucas Moura and Davinson Sanchez, but neither were able to find the back of the net as the home side were in charge at the interval and managed to hold on to their lead.
Frank Lampard’s men doubled their lead at the start of the second half when Ross Barkley rolled the ball to Marcos Alonso and the Spaniard fired a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner giving Lloris no chance.
Spurs looked disorganized on the field, and lacked finishing in the attacking third. They gave in all to score a goal, and failed until the 89th minute, when Erik Lamela dribbled down the left flank, and passed a ball towards Dele Alli. However, Rudiger’s interception was deflected into the near post beyond Willy Caballero to give Spurs a breakthrough goal.
However, Jose Mourinho’s men were not able to find the much needed equalizer in the dying seconds of the game as Frank Lampard registered his second win of the season over Jose Mourinho.
