Tottenham might soon have a decision to make on Luka Vuskovic and it won’t be straightforward.
The 18-year-old defender is having a breakout season on loan at Hamburger SV, with his performances so impressive that Spurs now face interest from Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
Luka Vuskovic is already a fan favourite in Hamburg. Nicknamed “Air Vuskovic” after winning a stunning 18 aerial duels in one game against Union Berlin, he also scored HSV’s first Bundesliga goal since 2018 with a towering header. The stats speak volumes, but so do the scouts.
Tottenham won’t want to sell but will Luka Vuskovic want to stay?
Sources close to the club have told TBR Football that while Tottenham have no plans to sell, both Dortmund and Leipzig are lining him up for a move in 2026. The club hierarchy rate him highly, but they’re aware that his path to the first team at Spurs is far from clear.
With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven locked in as starters and both in contract talks, Vuskovic’s route into the side looks blocked. That’s a concern, especially with the player recently stating he chose the Hamburg move for regular football.
Spurs are reportedly weighing up whether to recall Luka Vuskovic in January, particularly with defensive depth looking thin. Radu Dragusin is expected to leave in the winter, and Kevin Danso is the only natural cover.
Vuskovic is one of the Bundesliga’s best young defenders already
No defender has won more aerial duels in a single Bundesliga match over the last 10 seasons than Vuskovic’s 18 out of 20 won against Union. Add to that a 90% success rate and you’ve got a player who isn’t just good for his age he’s dominant by any standard.
Tottenham know they’ve got a gem. But with Luka Vuskovic showing elite-level potential and first-team opportunities not guaranteed in North London, this story is far from over.
Clubs are circling. The question now isn’t just what Spurs want, it’s what Vuskovic wants next.
