Tottenham Hotspur have surprisingly shown interest in Bayern Munich superstar Serge Gnabry, whose versatility is appreciated by Ange Postecoglou, according to Football Insider.
The reason why interest from Spurs is surprising is down to the fact that Gnabry was once on Arsenal’s books. Whilst his time in North London might not have gone well when he was at the Emirates, maybe it could be time to try his luck with the N17.
Gnabry was associated with the Gunners from 2011-16 but things did not exactly turn out according to plan. A young player just coming through the ranks could not really adapt to English football and decided to return to his home nation with Werder Bremen.
Just a season after, he earned a deserved move to Bayern Munich, where he has 86 goals and 52 assists in 235 appearances. When fit (which has been a question mark in recent months), Gnabry is one of the first names on the team sheet and for the right reasons. Now, more mature and a better version of himself, he could be looking to take the next big step in his career.
So, what next for Serge Gnabry?
Against all odds, Bayern Munich find themselves in the semifinals of the Champions League where they will face Real Madrid. Gnabry will be hoping to make it in time for the marquee clash. Next up, the Euros which Germany will be hosting.
Nagelsmann will call up Gnabry should he stay fit. Germany have a young and talented squad managed by an exciting tactician who has just signed a new contract. Should they have a good Euros, and the 28-year-old have a standout tournament, his chips could be on the rise.
Ange Postecoglou has shown a penchant to sign players who can play in different positions. He is like a puppet master who has access to the different strings and deploys them as he sees fit. Gnabry perfectly fits the bill in this regard.
The most important question would be how Spurs fans take to a former Arsenal player. The fact that he gave the Gunners sleepless nights in the Champions League on more than one occasion should go a long way in endearing him to the Tottenham fanbase. The fact that it’s not a direct transfer from Arsenal to Spurs makes this transfer quite reasonable. Let’s wait and see how it goes.
