Ryan Sessegnon has been unlucky with injury troubles, and that inconsistency in availability complemented by the ones on the field have kept him out of Tottenham’s squad for a while now. In what was admired as a deal for the future, a position occupied for the decade has been nothing but a juggling act of faces for a while now, but it could still be up for grabs for Sessegnon…
When Tottenham brought Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham for a fee of £25 million back in the summer of 2019, he was the most exciting prospects at left-back in England following his impressive performances at Craven Cottage. But hamstring injuries have been a stamp that has ruled him out consistently, so much so that he is yet to feature under Ange Postecoglou owing to another hamstring issue he picked up back in February.
But what comes as a massive good news in a long list of injury concerns for Spurs faithful is that Ryan is finally nearing a return to full-training as he enters the latter stages of his recovery. Football.London has narrated that the 23-year-old is coming into the ‘latter stages’ of his rehabilitation. And this time, it is expected, he is done with this recurring hammy problem for good;
Sessegnon was taken under the knife on his hamstring in July, as Tottenham aim to assure that his problems are resolved right from its stem.
He is expected to return to train with the squad in two weeks, and unsurprisingly Tottenham are going to take be ‘ultra-cautious’ to avoid any further setbacks.
Going to back when he had nailed down his position, we would have to walk back to the 2021-22 campaign when Antonio Conte was at the helm – and he was lauded as a ‘fantastic’ talent by the then gaffer.
“Desire in every moment of the game.”

Right now, when he walks in that dressing room – another fantastic talent hailing from Italy in Destiny Udogie occupies the first-team spot in his position. It is to be seen how Ryan will come under Ange as he has played the majority of his time as a wing-back. Maybe we will see him get the license to roam around as much as Udogie, maybe not. I will keep that for Ange to figure out, for now I am happy we have some competition at the left-back spot, and more importantly, a cover.
