Tottenham Hotspur showing interest in Dortmund star

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing interest in signing Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

The 20-year-old has had a bright start to the season, with five goals and two assists in 11 appearances. Spurs are considering making a move for Gittens either in the January transfer window or in the summer. However, they will face stiff competition for the Englishman, with Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool also said to be interested in his services.

Gittens won’t come cheap, though, with Borussia Dortmund having reportedly told his potential suitors that they will have to shell out £83 million for his services. This would be a club record fee for Tottenham, which they will not pay for someone who is relatively unproven. However, German outlet Bild recently reported that a bid of £40-50 million could be deemed enough by Dortmund. Should Gittens be available for that price, Spurs will likely show serious interest in signing him.

The youngster left Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund in 2020. Having a young English winger leave Man City and join Dortmund to become one of their stars is a familiar story, with Jadon Sancho having done precisely that earlier. The similarities don’t end there. Gittens is an excellent dribbler, and his pace makes it a nightmare for defenders to mark him.

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock described him as “electric”, stating: “Electric, the speed he has, the movement of the hips, as a defender, it is your worst nightmare. You can’t get anywhere near him, such is the speed of feet.”.

Gittens is an England youth international, and a senior call-up seems inevitable if he keeps up this form. The Lilywhites will continue monitoring his progress over the next couple of months, and should they secure Champions League football, Gittens may see Tottenham as his next possible destination.
