Spurs managed to keep their hopes alive of lifting a silverware this season after defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate to book their place in the Last 8 of the Champions League.
Dortmund failed to score a single goal in both the legs. Dortmund were without Gotze, Reus, Alcacer and Sancho for the first leg which saw them lose 3-0 at the Wembley. In the 2nd leg at the Signal Iduna Park Dortmund were the better team dominating all areas and managing 19 shots out of which 7 were on target.
Despite all this, the German side could not convert their chances. Spurs Goalkeeper Lloris who has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism managed to shut everyone up with a brilliant saves in the match.
Lloris made seven saves on the night which included a superb fingertip stop to deny Mario Gotze. While Dortmund struggled to score a goal Harry Kane scored the away goal for Spurs in the second half to crush all dreams of the German side to make a comeback.
After the match speaking to Goal, Dortmund Captain Marco Reus paid tribute to the Spurs No 1 and said, “We needed a goal before half-time, we did not make it,” said Dortmund captain Reus, who saw a deflected drive smartly stopped by the former Lyon glovesman in the first half.
“We had an incredible number of chances to score, but [Hugo Lloris] also did very well.”
Lloris has been very impressive in his last 2 matches saving a last-minute penalty in the Derby to deny Arsenal 3 points and giving a Man of the match performance against Dortmund to book their place in the Quarterfinals of the UCL.
Tottenham have been boosted with the return of Dele Alli who looks set to return to the first team for the match against Southampton as Spurs step up to fight for another top 4 finish.
