UEFA Champions League: Tottenham vs Ajax – Christian Eriksen vs Frenkie De Jong

ERIKSEN-VS-DE-JONG

Tottenham are prepared to host Ajax for the 1st leg of the Champion league semifinals at their new stadium. The two teams have been the surprise of the season so far.

The young Dutch side defeated the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Juventus to book their place in the semi-finals. Spurs, on the other hand, came through a tough group consisting of Spanish champions Barcelona and Italian side Inter Milan before knocking out German side Borussia Dortmund and League rivals Manchester City.

Spurs are running good in their brand-new Tottenham Hotspur stadium (despitet that loss against West Ham) and the young Dutch side have been in exceptional form going away defeating Real Madrid 4-1 and Juventus 2-1 in front of their home fans.

Spurs will be without Kane and Son who are their leading goalscorer this season. The likes of Llorente, Moura, Eriksen and Alli will need to step up to fill in the void left by their star performers this season.

All eyes will be on Midfielder Christian Eriksen and soon to be Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong, both the players have been in great form for their respective clubs.

While his good form got De Jong to complete his dream move to Spanish side FC Barcelona – Eriksen is also a reported transfer interest of Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid.

This could be the start of what could become a long rivalry, if Eriksen decides to join Real Madrid this season.

Eriksen has enjoyed a terrific season and has the stats to support his claim. In 60 matches for Tottenham Eriksen has scored 14 goals and assisted 20 which is three times of what De Jong has amassed this season. De Jong, on the other side of the fence, has registered 3 goals and 3 assists in 57 matches for Ajax this season.

Eriksen has a better shots per game ratio compared to De Jong. While Eriksen has managed 2.74 shots per game De Jong has managed only 1.88 shots per game.

De Jong has a passing accuracy of over 90% while Eriksen has managed only 79% of accurate passes. In their defensive duties, Eriksen falls behind De Jong by a large margin. De Jong has made 38 clearances and 41 interceptions this season while Eriksen has only managed a mere 7 clearances and 14 interceptions despite playing more matches.

Eriksen is a player who creates and launches an attack while De Jong is more of a player holding the team and connects the defence to and the forward line to the midfield. Despite managing fewer assists than Eriksen De Jong has managed 40 key passes. This shows just how effective the player is going ahead as well as dropping back.

De Jong and Eriksen have both been their teams best player this season and how they perform on the night will eventually decide the fate of their team.
