The adrenaline has still not quite settled in following that late equalizer against Manchester City at the weekend, and as December goes – we got another game coming up with the season’s first Premier League mid-week. We will host West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Thursday, a late-kick off which gives us another opportunity to give those all-important three points on the table. This one should keep me more settled going into the game knowing that we’ve got Cristian Romero available.
We haven’t had three points for a while now, and Ange & Co. needs to start catching up on the positional side of things.
With no Mickey van de Ven, with that horror injury & then no Cristian Romero – you can glance our defensive depth. Cuti was sidelined following a three-match suspension for his red card against Chelsea in early November. And with him back now, for after about a month, he should replace Emerson Royal in that lineup. He has been a huge miss for those three games, we’ve missed so much on multiple fronts owing to his absence complemented by no Mikey and no defensive depth. Ange had to start two full-backs in the middle in the last two games with Spurs’ depth in the position.
This will also be an opportunity for Romero & Ben Davies to get a good thing going. Build some chemistry. We are going to have to rely on them for a while, atleast for a run of eight to ten games. Hoping it clicks between them at the back.
For West Ham, lot of people are also speculating for Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg to start after his impressive performance against Manchester City at the weekend. Possibly Bryan Gil will be the fall guy if the Dane is to come in. We will see, won’t lose sweat on it.
It’ll be good to have Cristiano Romero back at the heart of Spurs defence, but he also needs to learn to be more measured in his approach from now, we can’t keep losing players to silly indiscipline. In as far as Pierre Emille-Hojbjerg goes, I think it was madness to even think of letting him go he has always been a standout player at Tottenham as well as a leader, a great professional in my opinion and I personally believe Spurs need him now more than ever for all his qualities.
