Having seen north London rivals Arsenal win the FA Cup on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur are now forced to go through the Europa League qualifying round to book a place in the group stage.
Arsenal’s triumph also meant that they pipped Jose Mourinho’s side for an automatic spot in the group and Spurs will now begin their campaign in the competition from the second qualifying round.
That also implies that Spurs have three extra games in Europe to force their way into the competition’s group stage, furthering their likely fixture congestion.
UEFA Europa League is the second tier club competition on the continent and is known mostly for featuring large number of teams, which some mostly not recognised due to playing in less prestigious leagues.
However, the Premier League side could also be posed with the threat of playing some high profile clubs in a more competitive leagues alongside the unrecognisable teams.
And Mourinho’s men will be hoping to avoid the more competitive sides in the early stages of the competition.
