According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap in the January transfer window.
Delap joined last season’s EFL Championship runners-up from Manchester City for a reported £20 million this summer. The 21-year-old has had a fine start with Ipswich in the Premier League, scoring four goals in his first eight league matches. Despite Delap’s strong performances, the Tractor Boys currently sit 17th in the league standings, a point above the relegation zone. This makes the young forward’s performance even more remarkable, as his four goals have come from an expected goal (xG) of just 1.36.

Arsenal, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and, surprisingly, Manchester City are all said to be monitoring the forward. Ipswich have put a £33 million price tag on their star striker to deter the interested teams.
Should Tottenham complete the signing of Delap in the January window, the forward will likely be given a chance in the starting lineup, especially if he continues his good form. Dominic Solanke was signed this summer in a mega £62 million move from Bournemouth. However, the forward has been disappointing this season. He has scored just two league goals, massively underperforming his xG of 3.56.
Delap was part of Derby County’s academy before moving to Man City in 2019. He made his senior debut against Bournemouth in an EFL Cup tie and scored the winner. The forward managed only six appearances with the senior team but enjoyed plenty of game time on his loans to Championship clubs. Delap was at Hull City last season and finished the campaign with eight league goals in 31 appearances.
Currently, there is no information on whether Delap wants the move, but it is unlikely that the forward will leave within six months of joining Ipswich. While a January move may not be viable, should Delap continue to impress and Solanke struggle to get on the score sheet, Spurs could target the young striker next summer.
