Spurs working hard to sign Jules Koundé

Jules-Kounde-Tottenham

Spurs are looking to revamp their backline after an array of bad form for the past few seasons and according to a local outlet from Sevilla, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Jules Koundé and are already working towards snatching a deal.

According to the Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervion, Spurs are looking to bid around £50 Million for the 22-year-old centre-back currently in a contract with Sevilla. He has a release clause of £68 Million but Sevilla are ready to sell him for an even lesser price.

But Spurs aren’t the only club interested in the young prospect. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and a host of other clubs around Europe are monitoring the situation.

The right-footed centre-back arrived at Sevilla from Bordeaux in 2019 and has performed really well for the club. The 22-year-old featured in 34 matches in La Liga and bagged the MOTM award for an impressive four times in the last season. Jules Koundé, who is really good in the air and passing, would certainly fit very well at Spurs.

For Spurs to sign him, they should first clear the deadwood that is rotting at the club for a long time. A massive clear-out is needed in the squad which Spurs are currently confident in doing and after only that would the Lilywhites afford the deal for Jules Koundé.

While Manchester United are looking at Jules Koundé as an alternative option if the deal for Raphaël Varane doesn’t somehow go through. However, Varane is inching closer to Old Trafford and the deal could be signed in the coming days. That would directly benefit Spurs who are looking eager to add Jules Koundé before their pre-season games that kick start on July 17.

Tottenham faces Leyton Orient at the Breyer Group Stadium on July 17.
