Spurs linked with 22-year-old Celta Vigo star

According to a report from Football. London, Spurs are interested in signing Celta Vigo forward star Maxi Gomez as manager Pochettino seeks a backup for Harry Kane.

The player has been in great form scoring 9 and assisting 5 goals in the La Liga and has caught the attention of many clubs. Spanish giants Barcelona and Premiere league side West Ham are also interested in signing the player.

As Celta Vigo sit at the bottom of the table and face the danger of being relegated it remains likely the player would want to leave the club to find a new home.

However the player would not come cheap and considering the fact Barcelona are in the race for the signature of the player, it remains likely they will be willing to splurge a lot of cash to sign the player.

Why Maxi Gomez will be an excellent fit for Tottenham Hotspur?

Harry Kane is indeed one of the best Strikers in the world right now but for 2 seasons consecutively he suffered an ankle ligament injury missing more than a month of action. And Kane’s injury had proved to be one of the biggest reasons why Spurs have not managed to list a silverware over the last 2 years as the club has no good backup option for Harry Kane.

Spurs, on the other hand, have not signed a single player over the last 2 transfer windows and have seen a no of their star players suffer long term injuries this season. Back to Back defeats against Burnley and Chelsea have most probably ended their title run. Manager Pochettino too has been left frustrated after another poor season at the club.

Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen are good players but nowhere near to Harry Kane. Gomez at just 22 will give competition to Kane and the Spurs frontline and has shown his capability this season.

Gomez is a physical player who has an eye to score goals and has been very clinical in front of the goals this season. Gomez is very effective in the air and is one of the best passers in the Spanish league.

One of his key attributes is the pace that has seen him steer past defenders and set up goals. The 22-year-old is the star of the future for Uruguay and will also prove to be an important player at Spurs.
