Academy keeper Alfie Whiteman extends contract

Alfie-Whiteman

Tottenham academy graduate Alfie Whiteman has penned a new contract at N17, keeping him at the club till 2022.

The club confirmed the news via its website and social media handles.

The 21-year old has appeared on the first team bench multiple times in his career, with being named as the substitute goalkeeper for five first team matches in the current campaign.

Whiteman made five outings for the Spurs’ Development Squad in all competitions so far this season, including two against senior EFL sides in the Leasing.com Trophy.

The youth goalkeeper is regarded as a potential future first team keeper by many Spurs fans, and with injuries Hugo Lloris and Michael Vorm, the youngster seems to be getting his share of opportunities.

However, he has competition in the youth team as well, in 22-year old Brandon Austin. Ironically, Austin also signed the exact same deal as Whiteman, but two weeks ago.

The new contracts however, change nothing for both Austin and Whiteman. Both of whom are battling out for the fourth spot behind Hugo Lloris, Paulo Gazzaniga and Michael Vorm.

Both Austin and Whiteman are regarded as good friends by the underage team’s coaching staff and their friendly rivalry has led to both of them giving their best and increasing their potential.

We have seen both these keepers on the bench for Spurs, however it may be better that both of them are sent out on loan to a club where they can get some minutes under their belt and gain some experience. However, that decision rests with the Club’s management.

Congrats to Alfie Whiteman! Looking forward to his development with us.
