Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has claimed Harry Kane looks “isolated” up front for the team, adding that the attacker misses Christian Eriksen.
Despite only returning from injury last month, the England international has had troubles in front of goal since the league restarted. In his last six games for Tottenham, Kane has only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions, with his overall tally now standing at 19 goals.
Jose Mourinho has said many times that his star man is still lacking sharpness as he continues to work his way back to getting 100% fit for the remainder of the season.
However, Dawson believes the 26-year-old’s shyness in front of goal has been as a result of the departure of Eriksen in the January transfer window.
The playmaker left Tottenham for Inter Milan in the winter window, after the club were losing hopr in trying to tie him down to a new contract extension.
“When they let Christian Eriksen go we didn’t see the best of Christian before he left, maybe that’s because his head was turned and he couldn’t agree a new contract,” former Tottenham defender Dawson told Talksport. “Probably 18 months ago he was the best No.10 at creating goals for Harry Kane. He was incredible, he was different class.
“I don’t believe they’ve replaced him… I love [Giovani] Lo Celso, I think he’s incredible and before lockdown, he was finding his feet and coming back.
“You talk about Lucas Moura, Dele Alli in there but I think Harry Kane misses someone like Christian Eriksen in there. He finds those balls and makes opportunities for Harry.”
The 36-year-old however has thrown his weight behind Kane to find his scoring boots once again, despite lack of services in the final third.
He added: “He scores goals, he’s incredible but maybe he’s a little bit more isolated now. He’s a fantastic player, he’ll be scoring goals. He’s done it for years and years and he’ll do it for the rest of his career because he’s a goalscorer. When you get chances, you never lose it.”
