Darren Anderton, former Tottenham Hotspur ace, has praised ex-Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as a potential new manager for Spurs. Tottenham Hotspur has been linked to several high-profile managers to replace Antonio Conte, who left the club by mutual consent three weeks ago.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Zinedine Zidane, and Rodgers have all been touted as potential replacements, with Spurs reportedly free to talk to any of them as none of them are employed anywhere at the time of writing.

Rodgers, in particular, has been heavily linked with the Spurs job, with reports suggesting that he has a good chance of succeeding Conte.

Anderton praised Rodgers, saying that he would get Spurs playing “the Tottenham way” again. He also cited Rodgers’ success at Liverpool, where he was “unlucky not to win the Premier League there,” and his ability to play a brand of football that Tottenham fans want to see.

Speaking to The Daily Express, Anderton explained:

“I like Brendan Rodgers. When he’s given top, top players… I mean, what he did at Liverpool, he was so unlucky not to win the Premier League there.

“He plays a brand of football that Tottenham fans want to see. I think that’s fair to say. Since Pochettino, with Mourinho and Conte, the football has been dour at times.

“We’ve got some wonderful footballers, but two very defensive managers that have certainly made for some very dull afternoons at White Hart Lane. So I think that comes into it.

“I feel like he plays a brand of football that is the Tottenham way, and I think that would work.”

Rodgers has won nine pieces of silverware in his career, including FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs with Leicester City in 2021.

Despite his relegation-threatened final few months at the King Power, Rodgers has led his former club to back-to-back fifth-place finishes. His potential appointment at Spurs would bring a shrewd alternative to the likes of Pochettino and Nagelsmann, with the Northern Irishman having the potential to succeed with the depth of talent that Spurs possess.
