Ange Postecoglou has provided a fitness update on Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min ahead of their Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City.
Son picked up a hamstring injury against Qarabag a month ago and was sidelined for the Lilywhites’ next three fixtures. The 32-year-old started against West Ham United but was absent in their subsequent matches against AZ Alkmaar and Crystal Palace. With the fans concerned that the South Korea international will be out injured for an extended period, Postecoglou has given a positive update on Son‘s recovery.
Son Heung-Min set to be available against Manchester City
“It’s not really a hamstring injury, but he was out for a while and wasn’t feeling right after the last game, so we’re just being conservative with him. All things being well, he should be alright for next week. He seems to be progressing well so, hopefully, he’ll be available for one of the games.” the manager said,
While it is likely that Son will be part of the squad which faces Man City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou may choose to keep him on the bench. The Carabao Cup is given little relevance by managers due to the number of competitions a club is involved in these days, and teams see it as a chance to rotate and give fringe players a chance.
Pep Guardiola is set to field a team of mostly academy players to give his key men a rest. Postecoglou will also likely deploy a rotated side, with Son left on the bench to ensure he’s fit to play against Aston Villa. Djed Spence remains unavailable as he continues to recover from his ankle injury. Otherwise, the Spurs boss has a fully fit squad to choose from, and the match will be a good test of both teams’ squad depth.
The match will happen on October 30, 8:15 pm, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
