Ben Godfrey interest genuine…

Ben-Godfrey-Tottenham-Spurs-transfer

Given the rumours, Tottenham are interested in investing in Ben Godfrey for an amount believed to be around £20 million following him falling out of favour under Sean Dyche at Everton.

This on paper looks like a decent deal, but if you sprinkle some Ange magic on it — this one suddenly is a potential bargain as well. Getting in a 25-year-old centre-back who is versatile enough to feature on the outside when needed, with him being just two shy of a hundred Premier League appearances is massive at that price especially when you consider how big of a potential he had when he moved on from Norwich City. He has always been someone with a massive ceiling but yet unproven as regards with where he can reach. These are the type of deals that can help you outsmart the market.

Godfrey in the right system, some patience and nurturing can be heading back on track to meeting his potential. Ange Postecoglou has helped many players from our squad do that, the latest of examples being Gio Lo Celso.

Describing Ben Godfrey will be a bit difficult, I am neither a scout nor a Twitter aficionado who knows it all. But I am going to try and make a brief description about him — Ben, during his time at Norwich, was highly known for his physique that complements to his ball-playing ability.

Both things are critical to what we need as of now. He was very efficient and effective in playing long diagonal balls into the runners out on the wing, and with the talent we possess upfront — that should come in handy as well. Although he’s not the most defensively apt player, you cannot expect him to be proactive — at times he will lose concentration and track of runners in behind. But he should be fine other then that.

I feel in the right environment, with set of players around him — he should be able to contribute at very high levels. Look at how good he is in the air, almost bullies people off. I like these kind of players, and especially at that kind of price.

A BIT OF INSIGHT INTO THE RUMOUR

Following the addition of Radu Dragusin, Tottenham want to add another face in the central defensive roster and journalist Dean Jones insists that interest in Ben Godfrey is genuine, but any deal looks difficult this month. Speaking on the Ranks FC podcast Jones said: “Ben Godfrey at Everton, he’s played two games so far this season and he can’t get a game because of Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite.

“There has been talk of a transfer for a while, particularly the links with Tottenham, which are true, they are real and they have a level of interest in him, but I’m not sure that will happen this month.”

We should see how this rumour develops, but this one… makes me excited from a potential development point of view.
