Tottenham Hotspur host Burnley at Wembley when the sides meet on Saturday, 15th December.
Spurs come into the match with narrowly making it to the last 16 of UCL. On the other hand Burnley are struggling with their form having last recorded a win on 22nd September. The poor run sees Burnley on the 17th position 2 points clear off the relegation zone. Spurs are currently 3rd, 2 points clear of arch rivals Chelsea.
Spurs would aim for a good win as they play the mid table teams throughout the month which can put them in the race for title or least a top 4 spot. Burnley however have Spurs and Arsenal in consecutive games so they might aim to get the maximum points available to stay above the relegation zone.
Spurs have had a good track record against Burnley last losing a match in 2010 against them and would be hoping to continue their streak of unbeaten games.
A squad rotation might be on the cards for Pochettino after a high pressure game against Barcelona and upcoming 3 matches within a span of 2 weeks. With Spurs still alive in UCL, League Cup and FA Cup the staff would be hoping to avoid any chances of injuries and full squad available at their disposal.
Manager Sayings
Mauricio Pochettino: “We need to play against Burnley like we played against Barcelona, that’s the challenge,” said Mauricio.
“The way we are going to approach the game will be key. We need to take the game in the same way as Barcelona with the same motivation, the same energy. The three points we need to win are as important as against Barcelona or any other team.
“I am more motivated to play against Burnley than the previous games because we are trying to reduce the distance between Liverpool and Manchester City. We are going to play for three very important points.
“To be in the top four of the Premier League and to keep that position is a massive motivation. It’s such an important game.
“Burnley were in a very difficult position but they have very good players and are a team that performed very well last season. They are very tough, plenty of energy and I’m sure this will be a difficult game.”
