Evan Ferguson hopes to stay at Brighton – blows Spurs transfer prospects for the summer

Brighton forward Evan Ferguson has reportedly dashed the hopes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur by stating that he wishes to stay with his current club, according to the report by Daily Mail – with both Premier League teams fascinated the prospects of acquiring the 18-year-old’s services for the upcoming season.

Ferguson joined Brighton in the winter of 2021 from Bohemians and has already made 22 appearances for the first team, contributing 12 goals.

The young Ireland international has drawn the attention of several clubs across Europe, making him a coveted prospect for the future.

Manchester United had sought to sign the Seagulls forward as part of a larger plan to bolster their attacking options. However, Ferguson’s reluctance to move has put a damper on their plans. United’s Dutch manager, Erik ten Hag, is looking for attacking reinforcements, with Anthony Martial’s future uncertain and Wout Weghorst set to return to his parent club.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur was also interested in signing Ferguson to prepare for the future possibility of Harry Kane’s departure, someone who is already highly linked with a move to Manchester United. So, if Kane were to depart to Old Trafford, this can just come out to be a dynamo of transfers.

Brighton, on the other hand, are looking to extend the player’s contract at the club, and Ferguson is reportedly happy with the amount of game time he has received. He is getting a good amount of first-team exposure with the Seagulls, especially under Roberto de Zerbi and is said to be keen to continue playing there for at least another season.

Tottenham would want to get a hold of Evan Ferguson if he decides to depart from Amex Stadium, or someone with equal potential, or atleast keep hold of Harry Kane. I think the latter will be more of a priority for Levy – though it’s important to keep an eye for the future as well and plant seeds to reap rewards in the future.
