Tottenham interested in €50 million Italian winger?

Domenico-Berardi-Sassuolo

As the Euro 2020 tournament gets underway, players who perform well are always linked with transfers to top clubs, and this one is no different, with Italian forward Domenico Berardi linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Domenico Berardi currently plays for Sassuolo in the Serie A and his performance against Turkey for Italy in the Euro 2020 opener, raised several eyebrows. His beautiful cross resulted in the opening goal for Italy after Turkish defender Merih Demiral guided the ball into his own net. However, Berardi rightly took the plaudits after a brilliant performance in what was Italy’s first major tournament since the Euro 2016. He followed that up with another solid display for his nation in the second Euro 2020 matchday against Switzerland, assisting Manuel Locatelli to open the scoring on Wednesday night.

It is not just his Euro 2020 performance that has set the rumour mill running. His Serie A displays in the 2020/21 season also established him as one of the most talented players in the league, with WhoScored ranking him as the 5th best Serie A player in the recently concluded season.

Tottenham Hotspur appointed Fabio Paratici as their Director of Football and this will give them a whole new dimension to signing players that are the right fit for their club. Paratici had great success as the Sporting Director at Juventus for 11 years and comes with the pedigree of having succeeded at a big European club. Spurs have no doubt made a smart appointment, and it is already showing with the club in pursuit of players like Berardi.

Paratici is a long-time admirer of Domenico Berardi and allegedly tried to sign him when he was at Juventus. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Tottenham have already made contact with the 26-year-old winger in a bid to give their rumoured new manager Paulo Fonseca a new signing as soon as he arrives. Berardi is one of the many Serie A players linked with a move to Spurs after Paratici’s appointment, and Berardi could very well become his first signing at the club.

The forward has seen his value go up drastically since the tournament started and is now rated at an alleged €50 million. After his recent displays, Tottenham fans were in awe of the forward and took to social media to proclaim their love for the Italian and urged their club to sign him. With North London rivals Arsenal also interested in the winger along with many other clubs, Spurs will have to act quickly if they want to bring him to their club. It remains to see if Berardi signs for any club this summer, with his main focus no doubt winning the Euros for his nation.
