Fenerbahce are readying a move to sign Yves Bissouma on a free transfer this summer, with the Malian midfielder set to leave Tottenham Hotspur when his contract expires at the end of the season.
According to Turkish-Football, the Istanbul club are positioning themselves as the leading contender for Bissouma’s signature and intend to launch a Bosman offer to bring him in ahead of a midfield overhaul of their own. Rivals Galatasaray had shown interest earlier in the season but those links have cooled, leaving Fenerbahce to move to the front of the queue.
Why Yves Bissouma is leaving Tottenham
Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton in the summer of 2022 for £25m and initially showed the kind of energetic, combative midfield presence that made him such an attractive signing. But his time at Hotspur Way has deteriorated sharply. This season he has featured in just eight Premier League games, starting only five of those, and the club attempted to sell him last summer before a recurring injury prevented any move from materialising.
With Roberto De Zerbi now in charge and a significant squad overhaul expected regardless of whether Spurs survive relegation, Bissouma does not feature in the club’s plans going forward. Leaving as a free agent this summer is the most likely outcome, and Fenerbahce are intent on making sure they are the destination.
What Bissouma would bring to Fenerbahce
The Turkish giants already have N’Golo Kante and Matteo Guendouzi in their midfield, and Bissouma would complete an experienced and combative three-man engine room. His best qualities, pressing intensity, ball recovery and physicality in the middle of the pitch, are exactly the profile that complements Kante’s quietly efficient style alongside him. At 28, he is not at the end of his career and will be motivated to prove himself after a difficult couple of seasons in north London.
Fenerbahce are also in talks over Bissouma’s Tottenham teammate Pape Matar Sarr, suggesting the club are actively targeting the Spurs midfield as they plan for next season. Whether Bissouma ultimately ends up in Turkey will likely come down to the other options he has available, with several clubs expected to register interest once his free agent status is confirmed.
