Inter Milan have verbally agreed personal terms with Tottenham’s goalkeeper and a formal offer is coming

Guglielmo-Vicario-Tottenham-Transfer

Inter Milan are closing in on a move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with Italian outlet L’Interista reporting that an outline agreement has been reached on personal terms and a formal offer to Spurs is now being prepared.

The 29-year-old has reportedly agreed a four-year deal worth €3.5m per season, understood to be a verbal arrangement at this stage. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has already made a trip to London and held talks with Vicario’s agent, and the Serie A club are now described as being “focused only” on the Tottenham goalkeeper as their primary summer target between the sticks.

The driver is straightforward. Inter’s current first-choice goalkeeper Yann Sommer is 37 years old and his contract expires in June. The Swiss veteran has done an excellent job at the San Siro but cannot be relied upon as a long-term solution, and Inter want a quality younger option to build around. They have been linked with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez at various points, but according to L’Interista, those names are not being pursued. Vicario is the one they want, and they are not looking elsewhere.

Vicario has kept 29 clean sheets and conceded 170 goals across 117 appearances for Spurs since joining from Empoli in 2023. This season his numbers reflect the difficult situation around him at Hotspur Way: 13 clean sheets but 50 goals conceded in 43 matches, with a save percentage of 63.4%. He is a capable goalkeeper who has been let down by a struggling defence rather than his own form.

Vicario’s contract runs until 2028 and Transfermarkt value him at €28m. Inter are expected to test the water with an offer in the region of €20m or potentially less if Tottenham are relegated, with the drop to the Championship significantly weakening Spurs’ negotiating position. Tottenham would naturally prefer to stay up and command a higher fee, giving them greater leverage in what is shaping up to be a significant summer of squad change regardless.

The deal feels like it is heading in one direction. Vicario is keen to return to Italy, Inter are fully committed to signing him, and the outline agreement on personal terms means the key remaining hurdle is a fee between the two clubs. That conversation is now imminent.
