Tottenham Hotspur are keen on £40 million PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn but he will not join them unless they qualify for Champions League which this season seems a task.

The PSV Eindhoven winger has persistently been on the radar of Spurs as well as Manchester United despite the player signing a new long term contract with his present club.

Spurs scout have consistently following the winger who is currently sustaining a hamstring injury. Tottenham Hotspur are badly in need of an attacker who can strengthen their bench.

Spurs, currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with equal number of points; probably their worst start ever in the domestic league for a long time now. Barring Son and Harry Kane every other Spurs guy has underperformed.

Bergwijn who has 9 assists and 3 goals in only 19 games will only leave the club if Spurs qualify for the Champions League, sources near him have confirmed.

The 22-year-old after his recent contract extension has raised his value over £40 million causing United to cease their interest in the youngster which only leaves Spurs in line.

When asked to Steven on joining a new club, he said: “When you join a new club, a better team, you automatically raise your level because of the level of the other players on the pitch.“

“If something good comes up, I’ll be ready for it. Otherwise I’ll be happy to stay at PSV.”

Bergwijn is not involved in the Holland squad against Northern Ireland and Estonia as he is nursing his hamstring injury.
