Tottenham Hotspur announced through their website that star defender Jan Vertonghen’s contract has been extended by one year that is until 2020.

The Belgian centre-back had joined Spurs in 2012 from Ajax and since then has gone on to make 264 appearances for the club. He along with compatriot Toby Alderweireld is the backbone of Spurs defence. Also considered as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, he was included in the PFA team of the year last season. He also won Spurs player of the season.

The 31 years old Vertonghen is right now sidelined due to a thigh injury and will return for Spurs in January.

The likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli and Davinson Sanchez have already signed their contract extensions earlier this year.
